The Denman Activity Centre is owned and operated by the Denman Seniors & Museum Society (DSMS). DSMS came into being as a charity and a registered non-profit Society in B.C. in 1980. The purposes of the DSMS are:

  • To maintain and operate the building known as the Denman Activity Centre, which includes the Museum and other facilities
  • To provide facilities for community social events and recreational activities
  • To partner with other organizations to provide community services, events and activities.

DSMS is housed in the Tess Trueman Hall, better known as the Denman Activity Centre (DAC). The DAC is the venue for a number of community events throughout the year. Some of these are sponsored by the DSMS, such as the Remembrance Day service. The DAC is also commonly used for elections, flu clinics, and public meetings.

The multi-purpose DAC facility is located in the heart of downtown Denman Island at 1111 Northwest Road. The DAC houses the Denman Island Museum and Archives, the Fitness Centre, a gymnasium, a lounge, and a commercial kitchen.

The DAC is operated by a volunteer Board of Directors. Our funding partner is the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD). The DSMS would like to thank and acknowledge the Comox Valley Regional District for their ongoing support. For more information about the CVRD, go to their website: www.comoxvalleyrd.ca.

The DAC board meets monthly. The Annual General Meeting is held annually in November.

The DAC has one standing committee of volunteers whose purpose is to manage the Museum and Archives (M&A). The M&A is located on the north end of the Activity Centre, and is open to the public July 1st to August 31st, Click here for further information.

The DAC Fitness Centre (FC) is a two-level operation that houses a variety of professional fitness equipment, free weights, and workout space. For a modest annual fee, members enjoy 24/7 keycode access to the FC. Members may also use the gymnasium when it is not booked for other activities. The FC is managed by our Fitness Coordinator, Sue Stewart. Click here for more information.

The gymnasium has a wood floor and is used for badminton, table tennis, pickle ball, Qi Gong, Nia, and many other sports activities and social events. It is also available for rent for celebrations, memorial services, public gatherings, fundraisers, and for private instruction for self-managed fitness and sport classes. Click here for rental information.

The lounge is smaller than the gymnasium and used for community group meetings such as the Denman Island Writers' Group, crafting groups, committee meetings, and for self-managed classes of all types. It is available for rent for private parties, community dinners, and fundraisers. Click here for rental information.

The DAC's small commercial kitchen is typically rented in conjunction with rental of the gymnasium and/or lounge. Click here for rental information.

In addition to the funding received from the CVRD, the Society relies on memberships, volunteer effort, rental income, and fundraising activities for support.

Once again, DSMS would like to acknowledge our funding partner,  the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD). Thank you. For more information go to their website: www.comoxvalleyrd.ca.
